The Fence: Which Side of the Fence are You on?
You can’t get any more accurate than this!
If you ever wondered which side of the fence you sit on, this is a great test!
If a Republican doesn't like guns, he doesn’t buy one.
If a Democrat doesn't like guns, he wants all guns outlawed.
If a Republican is a vegetarian, he doesn’t eat meat.
If a Democrat is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for everyone.
If a Republican is homosexual, he quietly leads his life.
If a Democrat is homosexual, he demands legislated respect.
If a Republican is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation.
A Democrat wonders who is going to take care of him.
If a Republican doesn't like a talk show host, he switches channels.
Democrats’ demand that those they don't like be shut down.
If a Republican is a non-believer, he doesn't go to church.
A Democrat non-believer wants any mention of God and religion silenced.
If a Republican decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it.
A Democrat demands that the rest of us pay for his.
If a Republican reads this, he'll forward it so his friends can have a good laugh.
A Democrat will delete it because he's "offended".
So the question again, "Which side of the fence are you on?

The Race: Life's Greatest Lesson
"Quit, give up, you're beaten"
They shout at you and plead
"There's just too much against you
This time you can't succeed".
And as I start to hang my head
In front of failures face
My downward fall is broken by
The memory of a race
And hope refills my weakened will
As I recall that scene
Or just the thought of that short race
Rejuvenates my being
Childrens race, young boys
Young men, how I remember well
Excitement sure, but also fear
It wasn't hard to tell
They all lined up so full of hope
Each thought to win that race
Or tie for first, or if not that
At least take second place
The fathers watched from off the side
Each cheering for his son
And each boy hoped to show his dad
That he could be the one
The whistle blew and off they went
Young hearts and hopes afire
To win and be the hero there
Was each young boys desire
And one boy in particular
Whose dad was in the crowd
Was running near the lead and thought
"My dad will be so proud"
But as they speeded down the field
Across a shallow dip
The little boy who thought to win
Lost his step and slipped
Trying hard to catch himself
With hands flew out to brace
And amid the laughter of the crowd
He fell flat on his face
But as he fell his dad stood up
And showed his anxious face
Which to the boy so clearly said
"Get up and win the race"
He quickly rose, no damage done
Behind a bit that's all
And ran with all his night and mind
To make up for the fall
So anxious to restore himself
To catch up and to win
His mind went faster than his legs
He slipped and fell again
He wised then that he had quit before
With only one disgrace
"I'm hopeless as a runner now
I shouldn't try to race"
But in the laughing crowd he searched
And found his fathers face
That steady look which said again
"Get up and win the race"
So up he jumped to try again
Ten yards behind the last
If I'm going to gain those yards he though
I've got to move real fast
Exerting everything he had
He regained eight or ten
But trying hard to catch the lead
He slipped and fell again
Defeat, he lay there silently
A tear dropped from his eye
There's no sense running anymore
Three strikes, I'm out, why try?
The will to rise had disappeared
All hope had fled away
So far behind so error prone
A loser all the way
"I've lost, so what", he thought
I'll live with my disgrace
But then he thought about his dad
Whom soon he'd have to face
"Get up" the echo sounded low
"Get up" and take your place
You were not meant for failure here
"Get up", and win the race
With borrowed will "Get up" it said
"You haven't lost at all"
For winning is no more than this
To rise each time you fall
So up he rose to run once more
And with a new commit
He resolved, that win or lose
At least he shouldn't quit
So far behind the others now
The most he'd ever been
Still he'd give it all he had
And run as though to win
Three times he'd fallen, stumbling
Three times he'd rose again
Too far behind to hope to win
He still ran to the end
They cheered the winning runner
As he crossed the line first place
Head high and proud and happy
No falling, no disgrace
But when the fallen youngster
Crossed the line, last place
The crowd gave him the greater cheer
For finishing the race
And even though he came in last
With head bent low, unproud
You would have thought he'd won the race
To listen to the crowd
And to his dad he sadly said
"I didn't do too well"
"To me you won", his father said
"You rose each time you fell"

10 Facts About Life
- No life isn't always (as in usually isn't) fair.
- No matter what people say, deep down they really do care what you think about them.
- Anger is a secondary emotion and is usually covering something else up.
- Tears are the words the heart can't say. The strongest people aren't ashamed or afraid to speak that language.
- The world may be evil, but the world itself is bautiful.
- There is nothing so valuable or more special in life than a true friend
- Sometimes the worlds taht are the hardes to say are the ones taht should be said the loudest.
- Your family really does love you and want the best for you.
- Every story ends with "Happily Ever After." And if you're not happy, then it's not the end.
- Tomorrow is a new day, and yes, the sun will come out in the morning. It will stare you in the face and if you let it, will make you smile and fill you with hope.

On Valentines Day
An old man got on a bus one February 14th, carrying a dozen roses. He sat beside a young man. The young man looked at the roses and said, "Somebody's going to get a beautiful Valentine's Day gift."
"Yes," said the old man.
A few minutes went by and the old man noticed that his young companion was staring at the roses. "Do you have a girlfriend?" the old man asked.
"I do," said the young man."I'm going to see her right now, and I'm going to give her this Valentine's Day card."
They rode in silence for another 10 minutes, and then the old man got up to get off the bus. As he stepped out into the aisle, he suddenly placed the roses on the young man's lap and said, "I think my wife would want you to have these. I'll tell her that I gave them to you."
He left the bus quickly. As the bus pulled away, the young man turned to see the old man enter the gates of a cemetery.

Some Things We Keep
I grew up in the forties and fifties with practical parents - a Mother who washed aluminum foil after she cooked in it, then reused it. A Father who was happier getting old shoes fixed than buying new ones. Their marriage was good, their dreams focused. I can see them now, Dad in trousers, tee shirt and a hat and Mom in a house dress, lawn mower in one hand, dishtowel in the other. It was the time for fixing things - a curtain rod, the kitchen radio, screen door, the oven door, the hem in a dress. Things we keep. It was a way of life, and sometimes it made me crazy. All that re-fixing, reheating, renewing, I wanted just once to be wasteful. Waste meant affluence. Throwing things away meant there'd always be more. But then my Mother died, and on that clear summer's night, in the warmth of the hospital room, I was struck with the pain of learning that sometimes there isn't any 'more'. Sometimes, what we care about most gets all used up and goes away.....never to return. So, while we have it, it's best we love it and care for it..... and fix it when it's broken.....and heal it when it's sick. This is true for old cars..... and children with bad report cards.....and dogs with bad hips.....and aging parents .....and grandparents...and marriage. We keep them because they are worth it, because we are worth it. Some things we keep.

Would You Want Her Back?
I'm very neat. My wife is messy - never picks anything up. Doesn't even notice the mess - it's below her radar. I curedmyself from my annoyance with her by imagining that she had died and then asking myself, "If you could bring her back to life but she'd still be messy, leave clutter all over the house - 5 pairs of shoes in theliving room, would you still want her back?" "Yes, for sure!" And, it cured me. Whenever I get annoyed with her mess, I rerun the script.

Even if it is Difficult, Find the Positive: A Letter to Diane
Diane, A woman in my online group was being very negative about her husband and the group leader told her to try to think of some positives, even if it were difficult. This is what she came up with. I thought it was touching. I just wanted you to see it.

H was very helpful in the kitchen. He usually got home from work around 3 PM, and he usually made dinner for the family. I don't get home until around 5 PM. He did all the yard work, took care of all car maintenance, always called me if he was going to be late, instilled complete trust, did the lion's share of bill paying because I hate to write due to carpal tunnel syndrome, balanced the checkbook, fixed the toilet when it would break (regularly), painted the outside of the house. He usually remembered to put the toilet seat and lid down. He vacuumedoccasionally. He spent lots of time with the kids. He bought adventcalendars with chocolate behind each day for the kids every Christmasseason. He laughed and joked a lot, and didn't like to be serious. He toldme when I looked good. He learned to enjoy horses because our girls and Iloved to ride. He was willing to try new dishes I prepared. He loved my lasagna. He went to church with the family every Sunday, even though he had trouble staying awake during preaching. Although he doesn't like classical music, he went to almost every concert our daughters played in when they were in youthsymphony (4 years for one and 6 years for the other). He held my hand through 3 labors and deliveries, and whispered in my ear to encourage me. He lovingly dressed an open wound for me after surgery for a breast abscess after the birth of our 3rd. Four years later, he stood beside my bed as I was being wheeled to surgery to remove a breast due to cancer, and tears filled his eyes as they did mine. That was in 1989. He walked the floor for hours at night with a sleepless, cranky child. Hespooned cereal and baby food into little mouths, and endured spit-up andbaby poop on his clothing. He helped me take care of my mother as she wasdying of cancer.
Is this what you mean, JJ? It was difficult to get started, but look what Iaccomplished! I also have a huge lump in my throat and tears in my eyesright now. He was a fantastic husband! My sister told me he "adored" me, and I guess that's correct for a lot of the 26 years we have been married.

A Grandfather Talking at his Granddaughter’s Wedding
A grandfather talking at his granddaughter’s wedding about the experience of losing a spouse:
People imagine that losing a loved one works kind of like missing cigarettes. The first day is really hard and the next day is less hard and so forth, easier and easier the longer you go on. But instead it’s like missing water. Every day, you notice the person’s absence more.

The Greatest Irony of Love
Loving the right person at the wrong time,
having the wrong person when the time is right
and finding out you love someone
right after that person walks out of your life.
And sometimes, you think you’re already over a person,
but when you see them smile at you,
you’ll suddenly realize that you’re just pretending to be over them
just to ease the pain of knowing that they will never be yours again.
For some, they think that letting go
is one way of expressing how much you love the person.
In my opinion, some are afraid to see the one they love
being held by someone else.
Most relationships tend to fail
not because the absence of love.
Love is always present.
it’s just that one was being loved too much
and the other was being loved too little.
As we all know that the heart is the center of the body
but it beats on the left.
Maybe that’s the reason why the heart is not always right.
most often, we fall in love with the person we think we love
but to only discover that for them,we are just for past times.
While the one who truly loves us
remains either a friend or a stranger.
so here’s a piece of advice:
Let go when you’re hurting too much.
give up when love isn’t enough,
and move on when things are not like before.
For sure, there is someone out there who will love you even more.

Kurt got a Job
I know this might be kind of weird for me to blog about my twin brother getting a new job, but I am so excited for him. He may not know how much time I have spent trying to help him find a job or how much I have prayed or put his name in the temple for him to get a "real" career oriented job, but I haved spent some time. I love my brother so much! He has taught me what it truly mean to be patient and hardworking at the same time. He took on two dead end jobs and worked, many weeks over 50 hours to provide what he could for him and his wife.
I had signed up for job postings from the state of Idaho to be sent to my email inbox in hopes of finding myself a better job. I decided that i might as well also get the postings for video and media so that if there was a job opening I could send it to Kurt. I recieved a job posting that I thought Kurt should look at in Idaho Falls. It would have been great to have him close by. Unfortunately he did not qualify for the job. I few weeks or days later, I can't remember, I saw another job posting in a city in Idaho that is about 3 hours away with roughly the same job description. I sent him that post. At this point, Kurt had signed up for the job postings to go to his inbox so he already saw the posting. He made some minor corrections to his application and recieved a near perfect score, a few weeks later he got a job offer and took the job. I am so relieved and I am sure him and his wife are too, to be able to have a "real" job.
I look forward to when I get out of school in a few years and can get a "real" job too.
The reason I write about this situation is because I feel that I have learned so much about patience, prayer, and waiting on the Lord's time. What a great example my brother has always been to me. I feel a closeness to him at times like this when, unknown to him he is one of my greatest teachers.

Masters Degree
I have started an online masters program in Human Service from Capella University. School is sometimes hard, but is very rewarding. I have never done so well in my whole school career as I have done in my masters program. I only take one class at a time so that I can work and be somewhat social too. Because of this, I have only taken three classes and will not graduate until December 2012. My classes are each 10 weeks long with a three week break between classes. I love the way my schooling is set up. I work hard in school for for 10 weeks and get to take sometime for myself for a few weeks. Most of you know how much and how long I have not really enjoyed school. It was a big step for me to decided to get my undergraduate degree. I never throught that I would ever consider going on for a Masters degree. Because of the economy and the job market, I found that I would not be able to get a career job if I did not continue school. It was another big step for me to finally decide to continue on with a masters. Here I am, 25% done with my masters, what a great feeling that is for me and motivates me to continue my schooling. I do have to say that I have family, friends, work associates, and college teachers who have and are a continual support in helping to get through school. I can not thanks them all by name, some of you have a good sense of who you are.
Idaho Falls--Westside Apartment
So it has been almost a year since I had done anything with my blog. Since then I have moved from one side of Idaho Falls to the other side. I live about a mile or so from the Holland family and enjoy seeing them on a regular basis. I have made a little home within my two bedroom apartment. I am still employed at a local grocery store, which I absolutely enjoy working at. The wage is not that great, but the people I work with are awesome!
